By: Karin Price Mueller/The Star-Ledger Since 2011, New Jersey has stopped more than $100 million in improperly paid unemployment benefits, according to the state’s Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Each week, an average of 1,650 invalid claims are denied. Jim Holt’s claim was not one of them. In March 2010, Holt lost his job as a maintenance man for Diocesan Housing Services, an entity of the Catholic Diocese of Camden. By: APP.com The U.S. added 200,000 jobs and its unemployment rate dropped to 8.5 percent in December, the government said Friday, in a sign that the slow economic recovery is gaining traction. The report was tempered by the harsh fact that the nation needs to create even more jobs each month to put 23.7 million unemployed and underemployed back to work. Unemployment Extension Update: 12/20/11: Legislation to continue federal extended unemployment benefits programs through February 2012 has been approved by the Senate. However the House has rejected the extension and is calling on the Senate to renegotiate a full year extension.
